Dr Hossain is having multi-disciplinary experiences covering academia and industry. He has been working in the research area of biomedical/public health for the last 20 years. After completing a PhD in Molecular Biology from National University of Singapore (NUS), he was Postdoctoral Research Fellow at DUKE-NUS Graduate Medical School and National Cancer Centre Singapore. With over a decade of training in world-class research facilities in Singapore, he returned to the home country, Bangladesh and served in various capacities including Head and Senior Manager (Head, R&D) at Incepta Pharmaceutical Ltd. (Biotech division) and Assistant professor at BRAC University. He is currently contributing as Executive Director of Biomedical Research Foundation (BRF), Bangladesh and serving as Associate Professor at School of Environment and Life Sciences, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). He has been also appointed as an Honorary Principal Fellow at the University of Wollongong, Australia,

He has co-authored publications in high-impact journals such as Lancet,  Cell Report, Oncogene, Stem Cell Report, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Virology, Biology of reproduction, Virology, BMC Cancer and Cancer Epidemiology, Autism, Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases, Plos Neglected Tropical Diseases etc.

Inspired by a unique concept- utilizing the underutilized resources, Dr Hossain led a team of 111 volunteer researchers (affiliated with 34 institutes including 22 universities) to study chikungunya outbreak (2017) and a team of 85 researchers to investigate the clinical spectrum and transmission of dengue outbreak in 2019. As a science/public health communicator, he has been contributing in popular mainstream news media and TV channels for last 20+ years with an aim to influence national policy (recently COVID-19 and its vaccine).

Most Importantly, Dr. Hossain is dedicated to bring research findings in solving community-level health problems. In this endeavour, his initiative is recently reflected through establishment of a community-based-research platform in Jamalpur district.

His current research interest encompasses public health aspects of emerging and neglected diseases in the context of resource-limited settings (Bangladesh).
